What is Web 2.0 for Newbies?

Web 2.0 was said to be coined by Tim O’Reilly. According to him, the idea of the term came out during a brainstorming with MediaLive International in 2004. This was first defined as web as a platform however, there are not a lot of meanings to the term when you search around the internet.
One may find descriptions of Web 2.0 such as the underlying philosophy or relinquishing control or an attitude not a technology and others which may only cause more misconceptions or confusion to people especially to newbies. There are descriptions and meanings of Web 2.0 for newbies which are only a group of meaningless jargon, but what really does this mean?
Web 2.0 actually has two determining factors, the first one is AJAX which is a short hand for asynchronous Java Script and XHTML and the second is the user’s power. AJAX allows web applications to work in the background without any interruptions on the behavior or displays of an existing page. This is used to increase the interactive and dynamic interface on web pages and get a better quality of web services through the asynchronous mode.
On the other hand, user’s power provides internet users more power than before to control or set preferences with regards to their internet experience. Before Web 2.0, a lot of websites has been autocratic to users where there are a lot of ads which spams their emails. These days, websites are more user friendly as more web owners offer cheaper and easier solutions and more choices and freedom to users. Web 2.0 for newbies maybe understood as providing better interface and control over their experience as well as providing them a voice and being able to listen to them. Right now changes on the web are actually based on past experiences to make things a lot better.
